  1. What's new in 0.54?
  2. -------------------

  4. Well, first, some bugs are fixed:
  5.  - a message used by !MailList wasn't being sent by 0.53, this is fixed.
  6.  - folder operations from TTFN could cause a Newsbase crash in 0.53.
  7.  - automatic expiry works more correctly!
  8.  - some small fixes to ka9q transport programs.
  9.  - extra checks in filter redirection to prevent any message loss (if the
  10.    redirection is invalid).
  11.  
  12. Second, some improvements are:
  13.  - improved user interface in some places.
  14.  - extra options for expiry behaviour.
  15.  - can create and use long usernames (though TTFN doesn't support these fully
  16.    at present). Username aliases. User passwords.
  17.  - Mail and news accepted from multiple transports.
  18.  - Outgoing mail & news can be sent to different transports.
  19.  - Support for external "New groups" programs.
  20.  - article lookup by message-ID is now supported.
  21.  - several functions are faster.
  22.  - online help is now provided.

  24. Now, the "bad news" - really more of a slight inconvenience during the
  25. upgrade. The format of the group information and configuration files has
  26. changed, and so you will have to reconfigure Newsbase 0.54 when you install
  27. it. Most of the default choices should be sensible. There will also be a
  28. short delay the first time it is run, while it recreates the new-format
  29. newsgroups file.

  37. ... and suffer from "phantom articles" in TTFN - where new/unread articles
  38. are reported to be available, but aren't there - then this bug is fixed in
  39. this version. You can either wait for the problem to go away by itself (as
  40. new articles arrive), or you can regenerate the "groupinfo" file by
  41. ADJUST-clicking on "Rescan" in the groups setup window. The latter will, or
  42. should, fix the problem immediately, at the expense of losing
  43. individually-configured group expiry times.
